Avery’s Helpful Hair Kits is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded by a compassionate second-grader who recognized a need and decided to take action. Avery's Helpful Hair Kits provides specialized haircare kits including products and tools for foster children with highly-textured curly hair to help them look and feel their best.
Our organization is based in Cook County, Illinois, where more than 70% of children in care are children of color. Avery's Helpful Hair Kits are a small gift with a big impact.
Why hair kits?
It's very important to Avery to have a routine for her hair. Her mom taught her how to wash, deep condition, detangle, brush and braid it. When Avery was 6, her mom told her about a local foster mom who was looking for help with her foster daughter's very curly hair. They donated some of Avery's newly-purchased products, but the idea stuck with Avery for years to come.
